UN/VEIL
UN/VEIL
An infinite choral soundbath shaped by voice and presence
8–10 October 2026
Real Ideas’ Market Hall, Plymouth
All events are free
UN/VEIL is an immersive audiovisual installation. Enter the 15-metre Immersive Dome and experience an infinite choral composition moving around and above you. Speak, sing, hum or whisper into one of the microphones and your voice will be transformed and woven into the choir live, altering what everyone in the dome hears and sees.
You do not need to sing or interact. You are equally welcome to listen deeply, enjoy the soundbath or simply be present as the work unfolds around you.
Visitors’ voices are not recorded or retained. Interaction with the installation is entirely live.
The work explores liberation, belonging and collective resonance through human voices, consent-based AI voice modelling, quantum computing, spatial sound and responsive 360° visuals.

Free circle-singing workshops and UN/VEIL preview
Sessions at 2pm and 6pm (approx. 1 hour)
Join lead artist ILĀ and singers from London Contemporary Voices for a short, welcoming workshop using the collaborative improvisation techniques that shaped the original UN/VEIL sessions.
No prepared music or previous singing experience is needed.
After each workshop, you will have an opportunity to preview the installation, try the microphones, meet some of the artists and find out more about how the work was made.
Workshops are subject to sufficient numbers.
The workshops are aimed at adults and are not suitable for young children. Teenagers aged 16 and upwards are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult (accompanying adults may watch if they do not wish to participate).

About UN/VEIL
UN/VEIL brings together singers from the UK-wide LCV family of choirs: London Contemporary Voices, TRANS VOICES, Glasgow Voices, Belfast Voices and Welsh Voices.
Musical material written by ILĀ, Didier Rochard, Meg Ella and Coda Nicolaeff was developed with the singers through improvisation, collaborative workshopping, recording and live public soundbath sessions at 160 Dalston Lane Studios in Hackney.
Their voices flow through an intricate bespoke system combining consent-based AI voice modelling, quantum computing and live processing.
This is not a choir singing along to a backing track. It is an ever-evolving choral composition with the potential to run infinitely, continually generating new relationships between the recorded singers, the underlying systems and the live voices entering the space.
As well as being an installation, UN/VEIL can also be presented as a performance-based piece involving four singers, or as a soundbath.
Inside the dome
A spatial-audio experience mixed by Emre Ramazanoglu places visitors at the heart of the composition, with voices moving around and above the audience.
Within James Gibbons-Macgregor’s responsive 360° visual world, the faces of the choir singers continually shift, merge and evolve with the sound. The visuals are driven by newly developed models and similar underlying quantum systems.
Sound and image are generated together in real time, making every encounter with UN/VEIL different.
Enter the sound
Visitors can speak, sing, hum or whisper into the microphones. Each voice is processed and woven into the composition live, changing what everyone inside the dome hears and sees.
There is no pressure to participate. Listening and being present are equally important parts of the experience.
An ethical approach to AI
UN/VEIL explores how emerging technologies might be used collaboratively and ethically with human artists.
The AI systems were trained using a small, closed dataset created with the participating singers’ consent. Through an agreement first developed for UN/BOUND, the singers retain collective control over how their voices and the dataset may be used in the future.
The dataset is not open to the public and visitor contributions are never added to it.
Visitors’ voices are not recorded, retained or used to train the technology.
What is a soundbath?
A soundbath is an immersive listening experience in which sound surrounds the audience and encourages deep, attentive listening. You might sit, stand, move gently through the space or simply allow the layers of sound to unfold around you.
UN/VEIL expands this idea through spatial audio, responsive visuals and live interaction. Rather than presenting a fixed recording, it creates a changing environment shaped by the composition, the technology and the presence of those inside the dome.
We intend to develop further collaborative soundbath events around UN/VEIL, following LCV’s involvement in This Place Meant, an Arts Council-funded project produced by And Gather CIC in 2026.
From UN/BOUND to UN/VEIL
UN/VEIL grows from UN/BOUND, created by TRANS VOICES, ILĀ and MONOM, with contribution from Patty Ayukawa.
Commissioned by and presented at the Barbican in 2025, UN/BOUND welcomed around 2,000 visitors and was highlighted by the Financial Times as a standout work within Feel the Sound.
UN/BOUND is a finalist for the 2026 Lumen Prize Experiential Innovation Award and tours to Japan in autumn 2026.
Building on this work, UN/VEIL brings together a larger network of singers while developing new relationships between choral composition, live participation, spatial sound, responsive imagery, AI voice modelling and quantum computing.
We are currently seeking further opportunities to present and develop the work in the UK and internationally.
